The prudent see danger and take refuge,
Proverbs 27:12
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
I, like many people, am really lazy when it comes to checking the batteries on my smoke alarm. I usually wait until they are beeping like, “hey, I’m dead, do something!” We can all understand the prudence of practicing a fire drill even if we get annoyed at how they interrupt our lives. We can see the value in building a fire escape, even if it makes the building’s facade less attractive.
So which do we choose? Do we avoid the eternal dangers of worldly living or do we let them come in order to enjoy the temporary pleasures of the moment?
