Our God is in heaven;
Psalm 115:3
he does whatever pleases him.
Out of context, this seems to indicate God’s character is capricious. But the Psalm is about the idolatry of the Gentiles. So, our God does what he pleases, not what his worshippers beg him or coerce him to do like the pagans believe. He’s not a transactional God but one who answers prayers due to his righteous and generous character.
So what pleases God to do? Righteousness and justice. When we pray, we have the expectation that we are going to receive an answer in kind.
