You will again have compassion on us;
Micah 7:19
you will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
I’ve heard preachers say that you leave your sins behind in the water of baptism, but Micah’s prophesy tells of a much deeper place that are sins are sunk to. We can look for restoration with God, but the picture of what that looks like is so much more vivid in the language here. One can almost imagine a seaside baptism, where God tramples transgressions into the surf while he welcomes the saved and the current drags the iniquities away to the depths.
