But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

Matthew 19:30

Jesus did not come into the world to establish dominion and control. God already has that, he is the Creator and Sustainer of the cosmos. Jesus came to remind people of God’s authorship and authority of existence. His message was clear: “Repent for the Kingdom of God is near you.”

In doing so, he modeled a type of leadership for us that runs contrary to the wisdom of the world. Leaders must serve, not be served. Those who can do the least for others should be treated with the highest priority. Compassion is not a virtue displayed through self-righteous charity but through a life of dedication to the “least of these”.

2000 years ago, Jesus established a new order. Those who worship and desire power in this life will find that the Kingdom of Heaven is indeed near, when God’s judgement comes down.
