But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

God is not visible to us, so his parameters of what is good or righteous are not always based on the visible. We know this almost instinctively when it comes to sin. Bad things done in secret are still bad. But do we feel that when we do the good things we ought to do? Does the satisfaction and comfort from doing something good that remains unseen ring as true as the guilt and shame from a secret sin?

God rewards the good done in secret, the question is, are we willing to do it and accept it. Are we really ready to credit ourselves for the good things we do that no one sees?
