I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
Ephesians 1:18
Christian enlightenment is different from the enlightenment sought by other spiritual traditions and religions. The Apostle speaks of being enlightened here as the rest of the New Testament does, as a comparison between seeing and not seeing the hope we have together in God.
Christian enlightenment is a group project. We are seeking a higher state of being, true, but it’s not about refining the soul through pious meditation or asceticism. Christian enlightenment is about making myself better to lift up the hope we have together as a Church.
