The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Romans 1:18-20

The apparent contradiction inherent to belief in God is the unproveable nature of his existence and yet the undeniable draw of faith. Paul characterizes this as the invisible qualities of God being clearly seen in creation. The evidence of God does not come by the visibility of God rather from his invisibility.

People witnessed Jesus’ miracles and called him an agent of the devil. People witness Creation and deny the Creator. This is not surprising, but it is inexcusable. Wickedness has no excuse to persist, not because of the obvious nature of human morality but because of the obvious nature of God’s awesome power and perfection. The intangible things that guide humanity are not mere aspirations for betterment but aspects of the divine, reflecting in our souls like stars in a dark pool.
