Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.

Proverbs 13:11

The Bible says a lot about money. It’s not surprising that between the “root of all evil” talk and all the things about the negative morality associated with it that people think that financial prudence or even just handling money at all are something almost sacrilegious. There’s something vaguely profane about spending too much time thinking about your money.

The fact is, money is a tool just like anything else. If you waste food, you know the full consequences of that instinctively. That wasted food have used, an empty stomach that could have been avoided. Why shouldn’t we think of money in the same way? Sure, money doesn’t spoil, but it can be squandered. When we save it, it should be to use later and when we use it, we should be able to see the benefit.

Gather little by little, but be generous and look for every opportunity to use worldly wealth to make friends for ourselves (Luke 16:9).
