The craving of a sluggard will be the death of him,
pROVERBS 21:25-26
because his hands refuse to work.
All day long he craves for more,
but the righteous give without sparing.
There are a lot of “false positives” when people test for laziness. Resting is not lazy; God rested on the seventh day after Creation. Being poor is not laziness; there are many factors big and small that could lead a person to work hard but still have no money. Asking for help is not laziness; Jesus got help from his apostles to do the work of spreading his message even before he died. Choosing to mind your own business is not laziness; we are called to be shrewd and prudent.
Real laziness is a lack of contentment, a resentful hunger for what others have while no effort is put forth to give to others. Look at this carefully: where there is laziness, there will be death. Where there is righteousness, there will be abundant giving, even when there is no abundance of material things.
