The ancient practice of biblical allegory is almost entirely extinct now, and with good reason; seeing bible stories in flowers and looking for Jesus in the Song of Solomon leads to distortions in the true message of the Bible. If I may be permitted to indulge in it a little, I hope to show even blunt instruments have their place.
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
Matthew 21:19
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
When Jesus came into this world, there were those who went before him, Simeon and Anna in the temple, John the Baptist, who praised God for his arrival, hailed him as he came. After Jesus’ departure from Earth, an even greater crowd followed after him, blessed him in the name of the Lord.
We are part of that party walking behind Jesus into Jerusalem, but our Jerusalem is heavenly and eternal. We proclaim the glory of his coming and bless the One who sent him.
The true Triumphal Entry will be one day when we join those who have gone ahead and those who we follow along beside and enter into that eternal Jerusalem with our King.
