What does it mean to be alert and focused as a Christian? Does it mean to be constantly on the defensive, anxious about the next move of the enemy? No, Jesus said don’t worry. Does it mean to be constantly vigilant about our own actions, never really sure we are saved? No, God’s mercy is sufficient to cover our sins. Then does it mean to always scrutinize fellow believers and look for flaws? Jesus said “take the plank from your own eye before you remove sawdust from your brother’s”.
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
1 Peter 1:13
Alert Christians are focused on the hope that comes from grace when Jesus saves us from this world! Alertness is hopefulness. We are not distracted by the temporary things of this world but expectantly waiting for the real and eternal life afforded us in Jesus!
