The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

1 Peter 4:7

There are too kinds of anesthesia that doctors can choose from when treating patients: the kind that makes you unconscious and the kind that blocks pain. Both have their uses. Interestingly, for some of the most crucial surgeries, it’s more helpful to reduce or block pain and keep the patient awake and able to communicate. So let’s think about that when next we pray. If God were to take us out of the most crucial moments in our lives, we wouldn’t be there to ask him for help. So maybe we need his help to ease the pain, but remember, we aren’t alert for no reason at all. Make the most of your abilities, and tell God what you need.
