Seek good, not evil,
that you may live.
Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you,
just as you say he is.

Amos 5:14

Does what we wish was true, what we claim to be so, match up with the reality of what our spiritual life is? Belief is not really a matter of bluffing after all. Even in doubt, we need sincerity. So what is the way that we prove our earnest words to be true? By seeking good and not evil.

The verse above is from a passage in which the prophet is lamenting the loss of innocence of Israel, a fall from grace. It is in that context that he calls out to them, pleading to return to good and abandon the wickedness that they had clung to.

What holds us back from having God on our side? The gap between what we say he does for us and what we do for him!
