Hebrews 13:1
Let brotherly love continue.
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
1 Peter 3:8
A huge emphasis of the New Testament teachings is on directing the young and developing Church to act like a true, unified movement. They needed to be conducting themselves in a way that would strengthen each other, the mission and the message. We could cite dozens of verses and bigger passages, even entire books that primarily concerned themselves with harmonious conduct. But that conduct was not based only on a mechanical, pragmatic need for getting along to get the job done. Christian unity is based on love for one another, not a result of getting to know one another and ending up liking each other. It is the starting point from which our relationships develop. Love first. Everything else grows from that.
