In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
We have a strong city;
Isaiah 26:1-4
God makes salvation
its walls and ramparts.
Open the gates
that the righteous nation may enter,
the nation that keeps faith.
You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.
We can make up our minds about certain unworthy things and stubbornly hold on to them, bad attitudes, prejudices, hard feelings, grudges. But God tells us to be stubborn in a good way. What must we remain gripped firmly to? Trust in God!
Salvation doesn’t come from our ability to defend our own minds by stubbornness of opinion, or even stubbornness to argue correct doctrines. No salvation comes from stubborn trust in God, tenaciously clinging to the strength he freely offers. In that way, we don’t work to attain grace, simply trust that the work is being done!
