It is a trap to dedicate something rashly
and only later to consider one’s vows.

Proverbs 20:25

Careful what promises you make! The words we say matter, not only to people but to God. Don’t forget whose name you wear. When you make promises and fail to fulfill them, it reflects poorly on God.

So here’s the guideline: better to say no and then change your mind to a yes later. If we say yes too cheaply and waste our reputation on empty promises, we devalue our place in the minds of others, maybe even in the community!

Deal with people fairly. Set the expectation that you are reliable and true to what you say. Be Godly! Don’t promise what you can’t deliver.
