Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

1 Corinthians 9:25

The crown Paul is referring to here is a victory crown, a laurel wreath. This is the trophy that the victorious athlete wins for striving for the best time in the race or by fighting through the boxing match. In our Christian walk, the discipline required to reach our goals must have the focus and determination of a world-class athlete behind it.

We can’t afford to let our discipline be lax when our prize that we strive for is so great.
