Jesus letters to the seven churches in Asia from Revelation includes some striking language to some churches who were fighting the good fight. The church in Philadelphia was one that was persevering in spite of their own weakness.
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Revelation 3:11-13
The church was not ready to go out and swing at the world and win, they were doing well just to continue on the same course. This is familiar for some of us from day to day. On the days when you aren’t ready to gain ground and push forward, remember to hold on to what you have!
When we do, we will remain in the presence of God forever.
