“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
Jesus had just finished telling his closest followers that they would abandon him, and then he uttered these words. His prophetic message about their betrayal was not a condemnation; it was a comment on their humanity and God’s grace.
We are in the same world that Jesus left to return to his Father, our Father. We have not been abandoned, and we can also know the peace that Jesus conquered the world to bring us.
