Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

PSalm 23:6 (NIV)

The word that the translators in the passage above chose to render as “love” is the lovingkindness of God, that imminently imitable trait of compassionate care for others. Other translations take the opportunity to use “mercy” here, showing the way that compassion leads to the giving of greater gifts than one deserves.

How good to dwell in the presence of the Lord forever. May we reflect that spiritual place, showing the way we are surrounded by mercy/love through the way we treat others.
