Water will gush forth in the wilderness
    and streams in the desert.

The burning sand will become a pool,
    the thirsty ground bubbling springs.
In the haunts where jackals once lay,
    grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.

And a highway will be there;
    it will be called the Way of Holiness;
    it will be for those who walk on that Way.

The unclean will not journey on it;
    wicked fools will not go about on it.
No lion will be there,
    nor any ravenous beast;
    they will not be found there.
But only the redeemed will walk there,

Isaiah 35:6-9

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 4:13-14

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

John 14:5-7

It’s amazing when you look at the ways Jesus represents himself and the connections that can be seen between the prophets’ visions of a harmonious world shared with God and mankind. Jesus is the living water that refreshes the desert, he is the highway called the Way by which we may travel safely home.

For the present, Jesus is the refreshing of our souls and the safe and level path. In the future, we will be with him where the river of life flows and the streets are paved with gold. (Revelation 21:21, 22:1) We are on the Way and in contact with the waters of life now, but oh how much more when we arrive in our final destination!
