“A winner never cheats and cheaters never win.” It’s more of a philosophical point of view than a truism. After all, there are lots of successful cheaters in the world who get exactly what they want by unfair methods. It’s the same for the violent and the manipulative and liars. They can get what they want, but the way they do it means it’s not really a win, morally speaking.
Do not envy the violent
Proverbs 3:31-32
or choose any of their ways.
For the Lord detests the perverse
but takes the upright into his confidence.
Believers are held to an even higher standard. We can’t even wish we could get away with what bad people do. Envy of evil “wins” makes for moral losses. We are steadfastly bound to keep to the high road, or else we may never make it to our destination.
