On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Mark 2:17

When we look around at the heartbreaking ways that disease and bodily weakness can cause people pain all around us, we know that all of these things are temporary. The life we live here on Earth ought to be preserved, appreciated and enjoyed but it is not the beginning and end of our existence.

As we care for each other in our physical needs, there is also call to look after those with spiritual needs. Who is it that needs our spiritual help? Not the righteous but the lost. If we have a mission today it is this: look for the ones who need help, and help.

Prayer

Jesus, Great Physician, give us eyes like yours that we can see pain and suffering around us and be the helpers who save people, not merely content to be well ourselves. Amen
