But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 14:26 (NIV)

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

1 John 2:1 (NIV)

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. So resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brothers and sisters who are in the world.

1 Peter 5:8-9

Adversary above means first an opponent in a lawsuit, then a general enemy or accuser.

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

Hebrews 12:22-24

The picture of our salvation is one of Jesus and the Holy Spirit guiding us and protecting us from the lawful guilty verdict we deserve by citing Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf and the Devil, our Adversary, crying out for our destruction. But God is the Judge who sent the one who calls for our salvation. What could the enemy hope to accomplish?
