The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

Matthew 28:5-6

God has made many promises throughout the Bible. He promised Noah to never destroy the world with water again; this could be the first promise, chronologically. He promised to keep his covenant with those who were faithful to the law; this could be the first promise made to his Chosen People. But the first promise in importance to eternal salvation is that Jesus rose from the dead, just as he promised. We can count on him to fulfill every other promise because he delivered on that one. Our hope, our faith, our life is built on that promise. Without Jesus resurrection, we have no hope of our own.
