When they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit.

Mark 13:11

When we get opportunities to talk to people about our faith, we often can be tempted to hold back. We get cold feet at the last minute, fearing offense on the other person’s part or perhaps even their ridicule or mocking if we talk about things of faith, things that matter to us.

There are some times when this is right! In Matthew 7:5-7 Jesus counsels those listening to him to take care. Just as the unrighteous often offer unjust judgement, overlooking their own flaw, the righteous can waste their time sharing wisdom with the unwise.

At other times, however, we must boldly answer out of what we know and what we have experienced of God’s love. Not because we as individuals have obtained the answer, but because by God’s gracious Spirit, we have received it.
