Then a scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” Jesus *said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Matthew 8:19-20

Quick reminder: Jesus was homeless and unemployed.

Circumstances do not determine the quality of the heart. The world judges the value of people on the basis of their ability to earn money, their social status or their willingness to say or do the popular thing. Jesus wouldn’t fit that standard by any measure.

When we look at our own lives, we must remember the teachings of James, that the poor are glorified by God and the rich are to be humble (James 1: 9-10).

Further, the teacher said that we are not to esteem the rich more highly in hopes of material gain but to show special attention to the poor (James 2:1-9).

In your circumstances, rich or poor, praise God for the blessings he has given you in the Spirit and let your actions reflect that attitude.
