Did you ever see someone fear the devil? I mean really shake and tremble at the idea of Old Scratch sneaking around, pitchfork in hand, giggling and ready to drag someone off to torment? No?

How about a more accurate depiction of the devil, as from the Bible, a lion roaring, announcing his intent to kill (1 Peter 5:8) or disguised as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14)? Is that scary? Maybe creepy or undesirable, worthy of caution, but not particularly frightening.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

Turns out he’s more afraid of us than we are of him. Fear God. Resist the Devil. Win.
