Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 6:26-27

God provides. We believe that as Christians. What we seem to disagree with is how much he provides. Some people have a certain standard for how much work must be done in order to be a responsible person; this is a moral judgement passed on others. But consider what work is for, or maybe better, who it is we are working for!

Jesus didn’t instruct anyone to be lazy but he did say don’t worry about clothes. Anyone who judges based on the appearance of a person’s clothes violates the sacred instructions twice, first in judging others value and second in trying to enforce a teaching Jesus didn’t espouse.

So what is work? The exertion of our talents and energies towards some goal. Maybe that’s money or influence or some other outcome of self-improvement. I’m telling you, whatever that wage of your work is, if it isn’t dedicated to the Lord, it’s not worth the work and if the work is not worthy of the Lord, it’s not worth the reward!

So don’t worry, but when you punch in your time, dedicate it to God.
