Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

John 3:6

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:7

It’s impossible to decide the circumstances of one’s own birth before being born; we can’t pick our parents, our location, the timing or even our eye color before we leave the womb. But there is a better birth, one unto eternal life and not mortality, which has a similar quality. Once we understand the urgency of being born again in Jesus, we can’t wait until the right time, we have to go and do it now!

But unlike the birth to death, the rebirth to life is an act of deepening Spiritual awareness, a rejection of the natural ignorance in favor of the supernatural enlightenment that comes from the Holy Spirit and Scriptures. It is entirely chosen but entirely compelled. It is completely personal and yet universal; the second birth is unique as the person and the circumstances that surround it but needed by every soul in exactly the same way. God makes us all unique and remakes us so that we can be the same: like Christ. We are born again into a life of Christ-like love.
