My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

John 15:12

If love were just an emotion, it wouldn’t be possible to command it. But since it is commanded, it must be something else. Love is an action we undertake, or maybe we could call it a posture of the heart we place ourselves in. Love involves sorting out your own wants and needs and placing those of others ahead of you. Love is “do unto others” because it is what Jesus needs from his people. First and foremost, it means loving each other. Once we learn to do that, the rest will build from there.
