Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:10

When persecution comes, it is baseless and unfair by nature, but that’s not the whole story. Those who are persecuted because of righteousness are categorically different. They suffer for good, not because of anything else. The deprivation they face is a result of their commitment to God. Who better to receive the gift of the eternal kingdom than the people who have given up much for the cause of righteousness.
