I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.

Ephesians 1:18

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Genesis 3:7

There is an opening of the eyes that is a loss of innocence: we can see the shame and danger in the world. We can understand life and death. There is another opening of the eyes, however, which shows us the things that bring glory and eternal security. We’ve had our eyes opened to the world, to our sin, to the need for salvation. But are we enlightened to the eternal glory hidden from mortal eyes, only visible in the heart?
