It can be tempting to think of generosity as a pastime of the well-off; people who have wealth giving to others out of their abundance and demonstrating some charity from their vast prosperity.

A generous person will prosper;

whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

Proverbs 11:25

But Christians know that God has provided us everything that we have. Our generosity comes from trust in God, not trust in our own wealth or ability to provide. If we give what we can’t afford to give, God will bless us. We will be returned as much as we give.

Note here that this generosity is not a command for the collection plate; it is wisdom relating to our interactions with people. When we are generous to our neighbor, we will see a return to us. Generosity brings prosperity when we are refreshing those around us.
