“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.”
isaiah 1:18
God’s forgiveness is often compared to a debt being forgiven; this is a convenient metaphor for all of us who understand borrowing and owing and seeking payment. Whether we have lent money or taken a loan, we all know the feeling of wanting to settle up and end the debt. One less thing to manage, after all.
Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
Genesis 15:6
God is calling us to the table to finalize the matter. He wants to remove the debt on our account!
