So Joseph’s master took him and put him into the jail, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined; and he was there in the jail. But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the chief jailer. Genesis 39: 20-21

How do we deal with the question, “why are good people in bad situations if God loves them?”

In Genesis, Joseph went through all kinds of mistreatment and persecution. He was abused by his own brothers and by an evil slave master and even sent to prison on false charges.

The question of circumstance is less about the person undergoing it but the people they encounter because of it. While in prison, Joseph did good for those around him, even though he was in a situation that was to be pitied. He made no excuses for his limitations but decided to do the right thing because he was a man of God.

A good person in a bad situation is not a victim, they are a champion. They represent God through their actions and their spirit in facing their struggle.

Prayer

Dear Lord, As we look at the situations around us, help us to see opportunities to do your will even through the struggles that would hold others back. Amen.
