So David blessed the Lord in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, “Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and on the earth; Yours is the dominion, Lord, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name.

1 Chronicles 29:10-13

David, son of Jesse, was king over the whole of Israel and was raised up to that place by the will of God. In spite of his mistakes, he was the greatest king in Israel’s history. Not because he was the most prosperous, but because he was the one who understood God’s will for the people. Furthermore, he recognized that humility was required. It was indeed God, and not David’s own strength or cleverness that took him from a shepherd in the pasture to the king on the throne.

So if you ever find yourself wondering how you ended up where you are in life, know that God has placed you there and bless Him, because his powerful hand protects us.
