I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.
John 17:15
What kind of salvation do you want? Better to ask what kind of salvation is available. The man stuck in the well can’t pick the color of his ladder, and the sinner can’t direct God on his application of mercy.
Jesus prayed for his apostles and, I believe, for us, when he prayed for their protection. He didn’t pray for a special land all our own or a life with no troubles at all. He didn’t pray for a swift and merciful end either. Jesus called on the Father and asked for protection from Spiritual danger.
When you pray, do you pray for the same? Don’t get me wrong. We should pray for good health, happiness, prosperity and all the material goodness God wants to give us. But! If we don’t imitate Jesus in praying for protection from the evil one, we are missing a huge part of what God wants from us and what God wants to do for us.
