What saves us from sin?

As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

1 John 2:24

The thing that Christians begin their walk with Jesus doing is acknowledging that their burden of sin is something they can’t manage or remove on their own. We each give that over to Jesus. What we receive at that time is the word that teaches us that Jesus saves sinners: the Good News! We hold onto that and we keep it central to our lives.

The Good News is not just for others. Believers need it too, because it ought to be there in every stage of our walk with God, guiding our growth, keeping us humble and keeping us unified with our fellow believers, like John is reminding his readers in his letter.

The Good News saves us from sin and then keeps on saving us as we meditate on the Word and come into closer communion with God and his Church.
