In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 1:1-5

The Word of God–Jesus, as we know him–was present and party to the creation of the world. As much as that creation may be hated, damaged and claimed by the people who are part of what he made, Jesus remains the Word that started it all.

When we take on the Word of God by joining with Jesus, we are taking on the transformative power of Creation, a power that can make us greater than we are on our own. It should not be surprising to us that the God of Creation is able to change our lives. What is surprising is that so many Christians cling to the old, decaying things of this world instead of being transformed by Jesus (Romans 12:2).

How can we say we accept the Word of God if we don’t speak, act and understand His Creation in the way He does? The darkness of this present age might not comprehend the Light, but his church must. Let’s embrace the Word and be changed by it.
