Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
Philippians 4:5
People will accuse us of lots of things. Some of them will be true. Let’s only leave behind evidence of our goodness and Christlikeness. Specifically, let’s make our gentleness evident as the apostle said. How do we do that?
Think about the meaning of gentleness. Gentleness is not a lack of strength but the ability to show restraint. Christians should be models of strong but not harsh, kind but not fearful of reprisal. We are to be gentle and firm in our gentleness. Don’t hold back any chance to do good for fear of appearing weak! Be gentle and make it obvious.
Christians are not doormats! But neither are we bullies. The Lord is near.
