For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, free of hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

James 3:16-18

How frustrating it can be to have your ambition stifled, your progress held back and your dreams crushed. When we set goals for ourselves, sometimes the hurt that comes from failure or someone getting in our way can be enough to stop us from trying altogether.

But Godly progress and growth is much different; it is not built on the strength we can exert over others or the way we can secure our own desires. A fruitful life for a follower of Jesus is a peaceful life, one which exhibits the wisdom that comes from God in our conduct, wisdom which is rooted in our inward frame of mind.

The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. So be wise, be peaceable and be fruitful!
