If you were extravagantly wealthy, and I mean old money, never work a day in your life wealthy, what would be the criteria by which you would measure the value of your possessions?
You can buy anything you want, so your phone or car or jewelry would be trivial. Art might be unique but someone’s always making more. Clothes, no matter how expensive, eventually go out of style or we lose interest in them. So what’s your most valuable possession if money is no object?
Maybe it would be your favorite musical instrument. A beloved copy of a book from childhood. A letter from a loved one. The most important things to us are not measured by the monetary value they hold to someone else, but the sentimental value they hold for each of us!
Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine.
Exodus 19:5
God has the whole world in his lap, but he has chosen those who choose him to be his treasured possession. The faithful have deep sentimental value to God. Do you want to be recognized as God’s own treasure? Be obedient and faithful.
